Broadcast message examplesYear-end & New Year promotions

Late December to early January brings 2 sales opportunities that need different messages. Before year-end it's clearing stock and items that must ship before carriers stop; after New Year it's start-of-year deals for people setting new goals. The year-end message is also the one time of year you can thank customers naturally, without selling hard in every line.

Who to send to

For year-end, pick labels for customers who have bought before, and send only to those who messaged in the last 24 hours. For stock clearance, pick by the labels for product categories that actually have leftovers; no need to send to the whole Page. Before sending, post on your Page inviting people to message for a year-end code, so customers who haven't talked to you in a while message in and join the group you can reach.

When to send

Send year-end promotions around December 20–27, before your shipping cut-off, because many carriers may change schedules or pause from December 31 to early January. Check your carrier's holiday announcements every year. Send the shop holiday notice 2–3 days before you close, and the New Year promotion once you're back to packing orders as usual.

Year-end & New Year promotions: tips that get results

  • Keep year-end and New Year promotions as separate messages. Before year-end, focus on on-time delivery and clearance; after New Year, focus on fresh starts. Combine them and customers won't know when an order placed now will arrive.
  • A shop holiday notice with a promotion attached counts as a sales message and can only go to customers inside the 24-hour window. To let every customer know your holiday dates, pin a post on your Page and set an automated reply in your inbox while you're closed.
  • Only say “won't be restocked” when it's true. If you bring the same model back next year, customers who bought because of it will remember.
  • If your admins are off too, don't broadcast a few hours before closing. Customers who reply and get no answer feel worse than if they'd never received the message.
  • A thank-you message doesn't need a big discount. Small touches included with year-end orders, like a handwritten card or a small free gift, help customers remember you without extra discounts.

Before you send

Promotional messages can only go to customers who messaged your Page in the last 24 hours. See the details in the 24-hour rule. Customers outside that window can only receive non-promotional updates through Facebook-approved templates

FAQ: Year-end & New Year promotions

My shop closes over New Year. Should I broadcast promotions during the break?
No. If nobody is answering chats and you can't pack orders, customers who reply after getting the message will wait so long they change their minds. Send promotions before you close, then send the New Year promotion after you reopen. During the break, use an automated reply that says when you reopen.
Can I tell all my customers about shop holidays through Messenger?
Customers who messaged your Page within 24 hours can be messaged as usual. For customers outside 24 hours, you must use an approved utility template with no sales content. Telling customers with pending orders that shipping will be delayed by the holiday fits a utility message more clearly than a general holiday announcement. For general announcements, use a pinned post on your Page.
Will big year-end clearance discounts make customers wait for sales?
They might. If you discount your core products every year-end, clear only models you won't sell again, incomplete sizes or colors, or seasonal items, and give the reason in the message. Customers will understand it's a clearance, not that your regular prices are inflated.
