Broadcast message examplesPayday promotions

You can run a payday promotion every month. The upside is that customers get used to the rhythm; the downside is that if you send the same message every month, they scroll past. Messages that work speak to what customers are actually thinking about then, like treating themselves after a month of work or restocking everyday essentials, and feature a different main product each month.

Who to send to

Send to customers who messaged you in the last 24 hours, then split by purchase-type label. Send a restock message to the group that buys essentials regularly, e.g. “Repeat buyer”. Send a treat-yourself message to the group that asked about a pricier item but didn't buy, e.g. “Asked, didn't buy”, because payday is when they're ready to decide.

When to send

Many companies pay between the 25th and the last working day of the month; some jobs pay at the start of the month. Check first when your customers message you most during the month, then send on the evening of payday, around 7:00–9:00 PM, when customers have checked their balance and have time to browse. Post an invitation to message you on your Page that same morning.

Payday promotions: tips that get results

  • You can keep the same promotion name, but change the main product every month. Customers who get an identical-looking message every month stop opening it.
  • Look back at last month's chats to see which day after the 25th customers messaged you most, and send on that day instead of guessing everyone gets paid on the same day.
  • Avoid sending promotions 2–3 days before payday. Use a Page post inviting people to message you for the deal instead, and save the broadcast for payday.
  • If you sell things people rebuy, label the month customers bought, e.g. “Bought Aug”. When they message you at the end of the month, you'll know instantly who's due for a refill.
  • If you take deposits to lock in a price, state the refund conditions in the very first message, so there's no dispute if a customer changes their mind after payday.

Before you send

Promotional messages can only go to customers who messaged your Page in the last 24 hours. See the details in the 24-hour rule. Customers outside that window can only receive non-promotional updates through Facebook-approved templates

FAQ: Payday promotions

Can I send a payday promotion to regular customers every month?
Only in months when the customer messaged your Page within 24 hours before you send. Facebook doesn't allow promotional messages to people who haven't talked to your Page in that window, even regular customers. What you can do is post the promotion on your Page on the same day every month, so customers remember when to message you.
Should I send on the 25th or at the end of the month?
It depends on your customers. Many companies pay between the 25th and the end of the month, while government agencies and some organizations have their own pay cycles. Shops selling to many groups can run the promotion from the 25th to the 5th of the next month, then broadcast on the day their own data shows the most chats.
How is a payday promotion different from a flash sale?
A flash sale lasts a few hours and pushes for an immediate decision. A payday promotion usually runs several days and comes back every month, so the message doesn't need hard urgency. Instead, give a reason to buy now, like restocking essentials or treating yourself, and state the date range clearly.
